My best friend closed her eyes last night, and her head was in my hands.
The Vet said she was in pain and she could hardly stand.
The thoughts that ran through my head,
as I craddled her in my arms.
Were of her younger years,
and her many wonderful charms.
Today there was no gentle nudge,
With an intense "I love you" gaze.
Only a heart that's filled with tears,
remembering our joy filled days.
Somehow I drifted off to sleep,
dreaming of my best friend's love.
When an angel appeared with a message from God.
"Weep no more my child, for she is with me.
She is chasing heaven's doves."
"Your beloved says hi and she wanted to say,
don't be sad, I'll see you again some day."
"Just want you to know that I am ok,
they are treating me good and I think I'll stay".
"Can't wait to see you when the years roll on by.
I'll wait for you by Heaven's gate,
It's by that big cloud in the sky."
