Pet Lovers Love Pet PortraitsI have been drawing pet portraits in pencil for many years and I have not found the pet lover who isn't thrilled with an accurate pencil portrait of their pet. Whether it's a dog, a cat, a horse, a bird or any other animal, the portrait has to be an accurate portrayal of the person's pet. Remember, they have probably had their pet for years and they know exactly what the pet looks like. That's why having a high quality reference photo to work from is a must. You have to be able to "see" the details in order to draw them accurately.
Also, when a pet owner loses their pet it can be a difficult time. Their pet was like a member of the family. A pencil portrait is a great way to immortalize their pet. It's so much better than a photograph. It's a way for the owner, even if only in their own mind, to say how much their pet meant to them.
